- Huawei has teased a new folding phone with a smaller inner screen
- This comes after rumors pointed to Apple working on a similar device
- No official information about the folded iPhone has been released yet
Over the past year we have heard lots about the long rumored folded iPhone, but at the time of writing we are still without any official confirmation or message from Apple itself.
Despite this, it seems that rumors alone have inspired a company to produce an apple-inspired folding phone self-being an unlikely result.
Huawei recently released a teaser on Weibo, where CEO Richard Yu is ‘caught’ with a new device that looks terribly similar to iPad mini-emend with a punch hole-self-camera embedded in the display.
The new Huawei device that Gsmarena brands can fall into the Pura or Pocket Families brand is noticeably smaller than an iPad Mini, but may have a squat screen than a conventional folding phone.
As Innogyan reports, the recent Huawei -teasers have incorporated tagline “1610 opens your imagination [sic]”, Which could suggest a laptop style 16:10 image conditions.
This may be a response to rumors that Apple is targeted at an iPad form factor of the iPad type for its first foldable device ever, rather than a flip phone similar to iPhone 17 when unfolding
As we recently reported, the latest rumors suggest an inner screen size of 7.74 inches for the folded iPhone, not far away from the 8.3-inch display found on the current GeniPad Mini.
Although this is just rumor for now, it seems that Huawei is eager to get ahead of the game on his domestic market in China.
And even though the phone in the new Huawei teaser may look small, an 8-inch 16:10 display would only measure about 4 inches wide when kept vertically fitting the device shown.
Huawei is forbidden to do business in the US and has withdrawn from selling phones in the UK and Australia, so it is overwhelmingly likely that this new folding phone does not pose a threat to Apple in other markets – but I expect it to be enough to turn heads to Apple HQ, as China is a large market and Huawe’s efforts can inspire copycats other places.
