Islamabad:
Capital Chief Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday emphasized the need for better governance to eliminate terrorism and warned that how long the security forces would continue to fill the “government holes with blood blood”.
The Army Chief, who approached the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (NSC), called on “all elements of national power” to work in harmony to make Pakistan a strong and elastic state. He called to rise above political and personal interests to adopt an overall attitude against terrorism.
“We need better governance and need to transform Pakistan into a ‘hard state’. How long will we continue to sacrifice countless life under a ‘soft state’ model,” he asked. “How long will we continue to fill government holes with the blood from Pakistan’s armed forces and martyrs,” he said.
General Asim emphasized that the ongoing war on terrorism was “a struggle for our survival and the future generations’ future generations”. He emphasized that there was no agenda, movement or individual larger than the security of the country.
“For sustainable stability, all elements of national power must work in harmony. I request religious scholars to postpone the distorted interpretation of Islam of Kharijites,” he said, referring to the expression used to terrorists belonging to Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The army chief stated that nothing was more important for the armed forces in Pakistan than the security of the nation. “If the country exists, we exist,” he said. To protect Pakistan he said, “We must unite and adopt a common narrative in which he sets off political and personal differences”
The army boss warned that those who thought they could weaken Pakistan through terrorism should understand that “we are united and we will not only defeat them” but also their facilitators. “We have complete faith in Allah Almighty; no matter what happens, Inshaallah, we will be successful.”
