Former New England Patriots No. 1 Collected Kenneth Sims Died Friday at the age of 65.
Sims had fought for illness and died in his sleep per day. 247Sports.
Sims, the first election in the NFL draft in 1982, played eight years in the NFL, all with the patriots. Across 74 career games, Sims recorded 17 sacks.

Throughout its NFL career, Sims dealt with several injuries. The only season he played in each game was 1984.
The defensive end underwent a back surgery in 1987, limiting him to 12 games. The following season, in 1988, he jumped his Achilles and played in just one game.
Sims played 15 games in 1989, before a knee injury sidelined him to the last game, and he then withdrew.

When Sims was drafted in 1982, he became the third Texas Longhorn, selected with the top election.
After Sims backed up Future Pro Football Hall of Famers Steve McMichael and Bill Acker during his second season in Texas, he burst out on stage during his junior season. Sims recorded 131 tackles and were named the All-Southwest conference and an allamic.
As a senior, Sims was named the All-Southwest conference and a Allamerican again, in addition to being the first Texas Longhorn to ever won the Lombardi Award.

The Lombardi prize is given to College Football Lineman, which best exemplifies the legendary NFL head coach Vince Lombardi, which focuses on character, discipline and expertise.
Also in his senior year, Sims was the top defensive voice-getting for Heisman Trophy after helping Texas to a 10-1-1 record and a Cotton Bowl victory in 1982.
During his college career, Sims had 322 tackles, 29 sacks, 50 tackles for losses, 15 forced fumbles, seven fumble recovery and three blocked kicks.
