Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning that detailed precautionary measures in response to the threat of potential drought conditions caused by significantly reduced rainfall.

According to a circular issued to commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and relevant departments across Punjab, meteorological department reports a decrease of 38% in winter rain throughout the province. The areas of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan are facing the highest risk of drought.

PDMA Punjab warned that reduced rainfall could have a negative impact on Rabi season crops. In addition, a potential decrease in rice production can lead to significant financial losses for local farmers.

Director -General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, emphasized the importance of proactively informing farmers about potential water scarcity. He emphasized that events have already been made in anticipation of water shortages in Thal and Cholistan regions, which called on the local administration to remain vigilant.

Kathia also said that the school education department will be involved in consciousness campaigns. He emphasized that preventive measures could help mitigate crop damage and emphasize collective responsibility for tackling the expected water shortage.
