IMF programs don’t bring development, hope this is Pakistan’s last loan: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that nations do not progress through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs and emphasizes that the stability that Pakistan requires has already been achieved.

When he spoke at the launch ceremony for Prime Minister Digital Youth Hub, he reiterated that loan of $ 1 billion from the IMF is not Pakistan’s earned income but borrowed funds.

He expressed hope that this would be the country’s last IMF program in history. “We must transform this debt -written existence into a life of dignity and honor through skill and hard work,” the prime minister said.

PM Shehbaz also promised to reduce public spending while making significant investments in the education of the younger generation and claimed that “we will dedicate billions and even trillion for their future.”

The prime minister said that during his time as chief minister of Punjab he paid 400,000 laptops among the students who were high in their schools and colleges. “This was the vision he worked hard for,” he noted.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the youth in Pakistan was a challenge as well as a great opportunity.

“If we provide training of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) of modern technology, they can contribute a lot to the development and prosperity of Pakistan,” he said.

President Prime Minister Youth Program Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan said on the occasion that the government opened up new opportunities to strengthen the country’s youth.

He said through Prime Minister Digital Hub that youth would benefit from various sectors, including sports, tourism, sports, IT, green economy and others.

The United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Officer, who was in charge of Sharmecona Rasool, said this was a platform for opportunities and hope. She said this program was aimed at making the youth stronger and a productive people in the country.

UN -resident coordinator Muhammad Yahya said the digital youth center was prepared to enable the youth to explore their abilities. This is the start of a journey with development and prosperity for Pakistan, he added.
