On Thursday, the government rationalized the fees charged by the private medical colleges for the MBBS and BDS degrees, closing them to RS1.8 million a year to bring medical education within the reach of the ordinary man.

The decision to reduce the fees was made by the Medical Education Committee, which was established on the prime minister’s instructions.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar chaired the 5th meeting of the committee to discuss fee regulation and rationalization in private medical colleges.

After extensive consultation, the committee reached consensus to recommend a teaching fee of RS1.8 million.
