Trump wants PGA and life to ‘braid’

At the forefront of a life golf event at his Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, President Donald Trump hosts members of the trip on the course.

PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan recently called Trump the “facilitator” of the ongoing discussions between the two golf trips – but almost two years ago the bomb shell message was made of a potential deal, there is not one yet.

Trump gave his attitude about what he hopes will happen on his way to South Florida.

“In the end, hopefully, the two trips will merge. It will be good. I’m involved in it too,” Trump said. “But hopefully we get the two trips to merge. You have the PGA tour and the life tour. And I think it would be a good thing to have them fusion.”

Trump called Liv -Golfers – a list that includes Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and others – “Some of the best players in the world.”

Back in February credited PGA Tour Trump for ”[getting] involved for the benefit of the game, “and it seems that there has been movement since he got involved.

“These conversations are real. They are significant and they are driven at the top levels of both organizations. These conversations have been significantly strengthened by President Trump’s willingness to act as a facilitator,” Monahan said last month. “President Trump is a lifelong Golffan. He strongly believes in the power and potential of the game, and he has been extremely generous in his time and influence to help bring a deal together. He will see the game reunited. We will watch the game reunite and his commitment has made the prospect of reunification very real.”

Monahan added, “We believe there is room to integrate important aspects of life golf into the PGA Tour platform,” and said he could imagine “a future” where the governor of the public investment fund Yasir al-Rumayyan can join the Tour’s board.

“We do everything we can to bring the two sides together. Having said, we will not do it in a way that reduces the strength of our platform or the very right momentum with our fans and our partners,” he said, adding that “obstacles remain” between the two sides.

Trump last month expressed optimism that the two sides get some Type Agreement done.

“They have to meet,” he said. “They’ve had a lot of discussion back and forth. They both mean well and an appointment will eventually happen. I think it will happen pretty quickly. It would be nice to see the best golfers play against each other.”

“They are all good people and they will find out,” Trump added. “So if I can help find out … I don’t get anything out of it. I can help them figure it out. I just think golf – it’s very much an individual sport and you want to see the best players playing against each other and not playing in two different places.”

Trump’s courses have hosted several life events since its inception, which last hosted a PGA event in the mid-2010s.
