When Ethereum’s hottest start -up of last year, Eigenlayer, launched a year ago for massive expectations – many members of the community were quick to criticize the lack of a critical function.
A message from the project on Wednesday said the feature – slash – is finally ready to arrive on April 17. The introduction of slashing marks the first “feature complete” version of the protocol.
Eigenlayer was pioneering the concept of resting, a way for Ethereum users to secure additional protocols beyond the base layer by resuming their stacked ether. Slashing should be a core part of this system, giving apps a way to punish bad actors by seizing part of their capital.
The implementation of slashes allows actively validated services (AVSS) apps built on top of Eigenlayer’s residual-system-to set customized conditions that punish operators who do not meet prior established conditions and reward those who do.
“This is a big step forward in the Eigenlayer protocol because it allows for a free marketplace where operators can earn rewards for their work and AVSS can start verifiable services,” Eigenlayer said in a blog post.
Eigenlayer attracted more than $ 15 billion to the platform within a year and generated massive hype for the eige token, launched in October.
Eigenlayer’s ecosystem has been expanded with “100+” AVSS in development, according to its website. Remarkable services include Eigenda, a data availability service run by Eigen Labs and Arpa Network, which specializes in confidence -free randomization.
While Eigenlayer was groundbreaking, the lack of cutting left space for competitors was to gain market share. Symbiotic, which allows to resume any asset, has been used by self -layer early adoptors, including Hyperlane, an interoperability frame, and ethhena, a popular synthetic dollar protocol.
