Wayne Gretzky finally has company.
Gretzky became the NHL’s goal scorer at all times back on March 23, 1994, when he exceeded Gordie Howe with his 802 Career Objective.
Now, 31 years later, someone is next to him when Alex Ovechkin poured Gretzky’s record Friday night.

Ovechkin went into the game that needed two to tie and three to become the new goal king – he turned on the lamp just four minutes into the game against Chicago Blackhawks.
Just over five minutes into the third period, the capitals went on the game of power; An obvious-ice scenario for Ovechkin, and he took advantage of. He took a passport and crushed it by Spencer Knight.
All capitals came on the ice when Ovechkin got a tall, long ovation.

Alex Ovechkin Odds: When does he break Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record?
This is the 14th time Ovechkin has scored 40 goals in his career-if the league was not locked out again in 2012-13, he would probably have 15 such seasons (although he led the league that year with 32 goals). He has led the NHL in goal nine times.
What is even more impressive is that Ovechkin missed almost two months of this season with a broken leg.
Ovechkin seemed to slow down just a bit last season, scoring only “31 goals in 79 games. But maybe he got a little juice, knowing that he could break the record this season.
Oh, and while Ovechkin is breaking records, the capitals Stanley Cup-Famer-Dere’s 105 points are the second most in the NHL.

The good news for Gretzky is that if you remove all 894 of his goals, he still has the most points in the NHL story.
