A European Civil Aviation team is scheduled to visit Pakistan next week to deliver for the first time specialized security training and certification to airport regulators, according to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The two-member team sent to the European Union directive will train aviation safety staff at Islamabad Airport, reported Express News.
The sessions will focus on meeting international standards, especially in the areas of Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) and Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD).
A CAA spokesman confirmed that the initiative is aiming to adapt Pakistan’s aviation safety protocols with globally recognized benchmarks, which improved overall airport security.
“This is a significant milestone in our efforts to bring aviation safety in Pakistan to international standards,” the spokesman said.
Last year, the Europe Commission and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) officially lifted the suspension of Pia and allowed Airblue to drive flights to Europe and mark a significant milestone for Pakistan’s aviation sector.
This development restores direct air connections between Pakistan and European destinations following a ban that had been in place since 2020.
Aviation Minister Khawaja ASIF confirmed the news and stated that the cancellation of the suspension and the new Airblue permission was made possible due to focused efforts by the Ministry of Aviation to strengthen Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) and improve security monitoring in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
