Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes’ mother says he almost stopped football in high school

Patrick Mahomes’ mother Randi Mahomes opened up for a period in his son’s high school football career as he almost ends the sport.

During an Instagram story Q&A on Friday, Randi Mahomes was asked how she kept her son motivated through “challenging times.”

The mother replied by saying that she hadn’t had to do much because Quarterback had been “so determined to herself”, but she also told a time when he almost stopped football in high school.

“There were times when he would come down a bit, even for a moment in high school when he wanted to end football. Yes, he did,” said Randi Mahomes. “And I encouraged him that sitting out of a season of sports and looking at the games, it wouldn’t be fun for him. And then he adhered to it, thankfully.”

The intervention from Randi Mahomes may have very well changed the course of sports history and history as a whole.

Mahomes continued to be a two-year-old starter at Quarterback at Whitehorse High School in East Texas, where he also met his wife, Brittany Mahomes.

How Johnny Manziel was almost drafted by Chiefs changed the course of the story and his life

In his senior year, he went to 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns, while also rushing in 948 yards and 15 touchdowns. This performance got him Maxprep’s male athlete in the year.

Mahomes continued to become a three-star college recruits and obliged to Texas Tech. There he won Sammy Baugh Trophy as a junior after leading FBS in passersby yards and gathering touchdowns.

That was enough to convince Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid to carry out a trade in the NFL draft in 2017 to choose Mahomes to be the team’s starting quarterback.

Since then, all Mahomes have made the bosses a dynasty and win two NFL MVP prices.

And it may never happen even if his mother had not prevented him from ending football in high school.
