Karachi: Several districts across Sindh roll under an intense heat wave, with temperatures expected to hover 5 to 7 degrees Celsius over normal today, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said Monday.
According to Met Office, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Qambar Shahdadkot -District, Ghotki -District, Sukkur District and other areas are probably witnessing unusually high temperatures when the heatwave intensifies over the province.
In Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar, intermittently strong winds are expected to continue today, which puts together the hot and dry conditions that have seized the region in recent days.
PMD said Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, with maximum temperatures that are likely to vary between 36 ° C and 38 ° C. However, sea breeze is expected to resume, giving some relief to the residents.
The weather alarm follows a week’s steadily increasing temperatures in the port city. On Sunday, the mercury topped almost 40 ° C, and similar conditions are expected to continue in the coming days.
Chief meteorologist Muhammad Afzal has previously warned of a nationwide increase in temperatures due to climate change and the urban heat island effect, especially in densely populated cities like Karachi.
He warned that temperatures could remain 2 ° C to 3 ° C above normal over large parts of the country and up to 4 ° C higher in Karachi.
With heat that poses growing challenges, PMD has called on citizens to take precautions. These include remaining hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities in the peak load and preserving water to ease the burden of public infrastructure.
