Sindh -Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced on Thursday the creation of a social media protection and regulatory authority under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) as well as a new Center for Expertise to Me -To Met Rape Extremism.
The messages were made during the 32nd Point Committee Meeting, which was chairman of CM Murad in Chief Minister’s House. The high -level meeting attended provincial ministers, security officials and representatives from the most important federal and provincial departments.
The social media authority will be authorized to regulate illegal or offensive content, enforce content standards, manage platform registration and recommend full or partial platform blocking. It will also have authority to directly concerned departments to remove harmful online content.
“This step is aimed at ensuring digital security and protecting individuals’ rights on social media,” said the minister of chief.
The provincial government also revealed plans to establish a center for expertise in counteracting violent extremism, which will focus on research, strategy and policy development to fight extremism.
The center will support terrorist financing surveys for the Task Force (FATF) for Financial Action (FATF) and help counter online radicalization, hate opinion and juvenile delinquency.
Cm Murad instructed the home secretary to present the draft legislation to the center at the next cabinet meeting.
The main minister also called for improved coordination with Punjab and Balochistan to perform joint operations against bandits in the river areas.
Shah, who discussed the return of illegal foreign nationals, said the provincial government had completed the first phase of the illegal foreigners’ repatriation plan (IFRP) and deported over 85,000 undocumented individuals during 2023-24.
Transit centers for return were established in Karachi, Hyderabad and Jacobabad under the supervision of respective Deputy Commissioners.
Cm Murad, who expressed concern about the increasing number of traffic accidents and recent arson events involving oil tankers and dumpers, ordered law enforcement to strictly enforce the traffic rules and understand those responsible for sabotage.
