No, Maryam Nawaz Sharif didn’t say her government collapses

A video clip with thousands of views and interactions on social media claims that Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif admitted in a recent television speech that her government and the wider political setup are on the verge of collapse.

The claim is false.

Assertion

On February 19, a Facebook user published a short clip of Maryam Nawaz Sharif entitled: “Maryam Nawaz also finally realized the end is near.”

In the video, Sharif is heard and says, “Thank God, this system is now at its end. My political opposition will continue, it is not a question for me. But I will never forgive those who have hurt my country.”

The clip has been seen over 467,000 times, shared more than 670 times and liked over 4,700 times.

Another Facebook user shared the same video with the text: “The nation has taken its revenge to hurt the country by bringing you and your family’s policy on February 8 [national election]. Maryam Nawaz also finally realized that the ending [of her government] is near. “

Fact

The Minister of the Ministry is incorrectly represented online. In the full version of the television figure, Maryam Nawaz Sharif does not refer to the collapse of her own government. Instead, she talks about the alleged downfall of her political rivals, specifically Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI).

A reverse image and keyword search confirms that the video was cut from a speech that Sharif held on February 19 at the launch of electrical buses in Lahore.

In her 30-minute address, she criticized PTI for her role in the riots on May 9 and accused them of long-term damage to the country.

At the 23:50 -Mark in the full video, Sharif says:

“What are you giving the youth? Petrol bombs and adhering to busting heads. They’ve been doing this since 2010. They’ve ruined Pakistan. Thank God this system is now on the verge of its end. My political opposition will continue, I will continue politics, it is not a question but I will never forgive anyone who has hurt my country.”

Judgment The video clip is shared out of context. Maryam Nawaz Sharif referred to Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf. She did not talk about her own government in Punjab or her party’s position at the federal level.
