Earthquake space shaking Islamabad and more regions of Pakistan

An earthquake of 5.5 sizes hit parts of northern Pakistan on Saturday, where shaking felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several districts over Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The National Seismic Monitoring Center reported that the episent was located approx. 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi, at a depth of 12 kilometers.

The shakes were recorded at. 12:31 local time.

Strong shocks were reported in Islamabad and Twin City of Rawalpindi, causing residents to evacuate homes and buildings in fear. Similar tremors were also felt in Swat, Swabi, Buner, Sangla Hill and the surrounding areas.

The provincial disaster control authority (PDMA) Punjab confirmed that the earthquake was also marked in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat and other areas of the province.

So far, no loss of life or material damage has been reported according to PDMA officials.

However, emergency teams and equipment are placed on high alarms in the affected regions.

“PDMA’s provincial control room and emergency operation of district operation remains operational 24/7,” said DG PDMA Punjab. “Any damage or emergency can be reported via PDMA — helper at 1129.”

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and the residents have been asked to remain cautious in the event of a crash.
