The authorities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have issued a heat wave alarm, as temperatures throughout the province are expected to rise significantly in the coming days.

The provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) said in a statement on Saturday that most districts are expected to experience a gradual increase in day temperatures from Monday, Express News reported.

The daytime could rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, while dry and dusty winds can affect some areas in the afternoon and evening.

The Met Office warned that prolonged hot and dry conditions could increase the risk of het features and SIL water resources.

PDMA has instructed all district administrations and relevant departments to take precautions. The agency urged the public to avoid direct sun exposure between 7 p.m. 10 and 17, especially older people and children.

Farmers have been asked to ensure sufficient water supply to their crops, while the health department has been asked to keep heating centers in operation. Paramedics and rescue teams have been placed on duty.

Instructions have also been issued for the protection of livestock and pets under the heat wave.

Drivers have been asked to check their vehicle’s engine coolant and tire pressure before traveling. PDMA said its emergency surgery center is fully functional and citizens can report emergencies via the 1700 aid line.
