Pakistan called on Sunday to full cooperation from Iranian authorities to investigate and bring legal those responsible for the brutal murder of eight Pakistani nationals of Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan Province this weekend.

It emphasized a comprehensive study to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice as well as a quick return of the victims’ remains to Pakistan. “We hope for the full cooperation of the Iranian pages to investigate the matter and timely home to the victims’ remains,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday called for the implementation of a coordinated strategy from all countries in the region against terrorism and said the threat of terror was devastating to all nations in the region.

Shehbaz expressed serious concern about the cruel killing of eight Pakistanis in the Mehrestan area of ​​Iran and urged Tehran to immediately arrest the defendant and bring to the public the reasons for this cruel act.

According to Iranian media reports, unidentified gunmen opened fire in a workshop in Mehrestan district near the Afghanistan border and killed at least eight Pakistani citizens who worked there as car mechanics.

Six of the victims were residents of Khanqah Sharif, a rural area in Bahawalpur, while the remaining two came from Tehsil Ahmedspur Sharqia. According to reports, the victims were found with their hands and feet tied and had been shot up close.

Family members of the victims have appealed to the government for help to bring the remains home. Shehbaz ordered the Foreign Ministry to come into contact with the victims’ families and instructed Pakistan’s embassy in Iran for the safe return of the bodies.

The Iranian Embassy in Islamabad also condemned an “inhuman and feigt armed” attack and called for joint efforts to eradicate terrorism – a chronic situation and a common threat throughout the region.

“Fighting this ominous phenomenon requires collective and joint efforts from all countries to eradicate all forms of terrorism and extremism that have demanded life for thousands of innocent people in recent decades,” it added.

The embassy said the investigation had been launched in the killing of the Pakistanis and added that the Iranian police were determined to arrest the terrorists involved in the incident and bring them to justice. It said events were made to send the bodies back as soon as possible.
