When it’s between the lines – or with golf, inside the ropes – it’s all business for Rory McIlroy.
Apparently, the memo did not come to Bryson Dechambeau ahead of the last round of Masters.
The two were paired together again in a major, just like last year’s US Open, which Dechambeau caught from McIlroy in the late holes. McIlroy even joked in the winter that he would “come back” at Defechambeau for “what he did to me” at Pinehurst.
Dechambeau cracked, “To be fair, you did it for yourself.”

It was a friendly competitive quarrel between the Ryder Cup and PGA life rivals, but nothing was friendly on Sunday.
Dechambeau said McIlroy “didn’t talk to me once” during the last round.
It was all part of the plan.
“It had nothing to do with Bryson,” McIlroy’s sports psychologist Bob Rotella told the BBC via ESPN. “It was just the game plan all week and we wanted to be lost in it. We wouldn’t be aware of what anyone else scored, shooting or swinging, or how far they hit it. We just wanted Rory to play his game.

“The point is that if you think you want to win, just play your game and assume that if you do it anywhere near the way you are capable of ending up, then you end up # 1.”
Despite lots of hiccups, it worked. McIlroy finally won his first masters and ended his career Grand Slam on his 11th attempt.
Dechambeau said he enjoyed that excitement from the day, but said his partner showed up.
“He was like ‘eh.’ Just being focused, however, I assume.

McIlroy became the first player to win a masters despite double bogeying four times in the tournament. To fight it, he set a tournament record with 30 “3S” on Scorecard.
