Google plans to replace assistant across his ecosystem with its potent Gemini AI, and Wear OS may be the next platform to get the processing, with code that suggests that the upgrade could be very close to hand.
We have known about Gemini who will carry us for a while, and now the feature has been seen buried in the Code of the Assistant app for Wear OS, which may indicate that a launch could be imminent.
As discovered by 9to5Google, the Google Assistant app for Wear OS has been updated and now contains several references to Google Gemini buried within its code. Here’s what we know and what it tells us about Gemini.
Google Gemini on Wear OS
The code strings reveal the usual popups you might expect to look for a wear out of us Gemini update, specifically “Gemini is now on your watch” and “Get started with Gemini: Talk naturally and get more done with a personal AI assistant on your watch.”
However, the leak also includes some details about how the feature works and what you might do with it.
“You use Gemini on your phone, and now it’s the assistant on your watch to talk to Gemini, hold down the side button or just say” Hey Google “if you’ve turned on that setting,” says another prompt.
In addition, 9TO5 reports reported in the code strings, including “Set alarms, timers, message about your contacts and more.” As the report notes, it is largely similar to Google Assistant’s current package of features.
Google Gemini has lots of advanced features for mail, weather updates and beyond. Whether these more advanced features will carry us to see. However, the limited treatment power and battery of even the best Android smartwatches indicate that we are unlikely to get any gemini feature on the Wear OS.
As for a roll -out time line, there is no fixed date yet, but this code vision seems to indicate that Gemini is actually very close. One possibility is that Google could reserve the roll -out for the emergence of Pixel Watch 4, which we would expect to see as a replacement for Pixel Watch 3 later in the year.
