Tesla Cybertruck does not sell in the numbers that CEO Elon Musk predicted, and with inventory, the company implements several tactics to get the divisive electric pick-up truck in the hands of customers.
According to various reports, Tesla offers up to $ 11,900 discount on the requested price for many cybertruck models in the US, while potential Canadian buyers are also lured with up to CAD $ 16,590 discount.
In addition to the discount, many of these offers also include additional sweeteners, including free lifetime charging via Marques SuperCharger networks and life access to (monitored) full self-driving technology, which typically requires a monthly subscription fee.
When Cybertruck was launched in 2023, Elon Musk emphatically announced that the vehicle would sell over 250,000 units a year, but this number looks more like 25,000 units.
Forbes called the famous model “The car industry’s biggest floppe in decades”, with reference to similar sales errors, such as Ford Edsel and Butt-Sukly Pontiac Aztek, which became famous by breaking badly, so that colors better than the steel paneled cyber truck.
Despite the launch of a new, more affordable cybertruck model last week, Tesla is now slowing the production of the model on its gigafactory in Texas to prevent storage further, according to a report from Business Insider.
Cybertruck is suffering from the Delorean curse
Like the gull-winged DMC sports car from back to the future, Cybertruck had its moment in the limelight and is now facing a massive downturn in demand.
Despite being separated by nearly 50 years, Delorean and Cybertruck stories are eerily alike, where foreign styling initially seizes the public’s attention, but reports of poor build quality and the subsequent public controversy around the owner effectively killed both projects.
The bottom line is that cybertruck has come to represent everything a big cut of the American public is currently gelting. As a result, it has been the focal point of aggression, vandalism and ridicule.
We have reported on a general cooling of the demand for most Tesla products, with close competitors who are eager to hover and make conquest sales.
But this is a particularly thorny problem for cyber truck, and it feels like no matter how much musk chooses to incentive it, the divisive pickup days can be numbered.
