An earthquake of 5.7 hit an earthquake near Pakistan’s northern border on Saturday morning and sent residents on the run in buildings in major cities, including the capital Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar.
Quake’s episent was located 53 kilometers of south-southwest for Ashkasham, Afghanistan, at. 11:47 Local Time (0647 GMT), according to the Geological Survey of the United States. Temblor stems from a depth of 94 kilometers.
While no damage or significant structural damage was reported, the long -term shaking – which lasts almost 30 seconds according to eyewitnesses – widespread alarm caused.
In Islamabad, office workers evacuated high -rise buildings as furniture shook and ceiling fans swung.
In addition to major cities, reports confirmed that shakes were also experienced in areas such as Lower Dir in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province.
Eyewitnesses said the residents rushed outdoors, many recited religious verses in fear.
In Lahore and the surrounding areas unfolded similar scenes, with people gathering in open spaces after the shaking.
No damage or structural damage was immediately reported. Authorities assess the impact and monitor the situation.
