Sindh Minister of Chief Murad Ali Shah confirmed his province’s united opposition to the proposed channel projects and declared that the people of Sindh will not return from their attitude.
In a speech with the media in Sehwan and Bhan Saeedabad, CM SINDH said the population of Sindh is “fully united and actively protesting” against the construction of new channels, a plan that has triggered growing political and public setback in the province.
“This is not only the government’s attitude – the people of Sindh have made it clear: We reject these channels,” said CM Sindh. “We don’t step back.”
CM SINDH added that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has consistently opposed the project and pointed to the recent statements made in the national assembly of the party’s chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
“President Bilawal has already made it clear in parliament – these channels cannot be supported under any circumstances.”
He also referred to the recent election in Umerkot and said that voters had given “a clear message” by gathering behind PPP, despite attempts from what he called “conspiratorial elements” to divide the province.
“Social media has only said that PPP can stop these channels – and that’s true,” added CM Sindh. “Because their approval was obtained by the caretaker government through IRSA, not by the elected representatives of the people.”
The Minister of Ministry welcomed those who protested on the canal project and said that peaceful demonstrations were a democratic court. However, he warned that “some elements are trying to vri this question to a conspiracy against PPP.”
Referring to the recent political gatherings highlighted CM SINDH PPP’s strong public support. “Our recent rally in the Hyderabad division was massive. And this is just the beginning – we will soon hold big rallies in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas and Karachi as well.”
He reiterated that PPP was standing with the people in the question. “We are with the public about this matter,” he said, repeating the party’s growing campaign to mobilize meaning against the Canal initiative.
The controversial channel proposal – reportedly approved by the caretaker government through the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) – has given rise to significant resistance in Sindh, where there is concern about water -knobness acute.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court’s Bar Association in Pakistan (SCBAP) has strongly opposed the construction of six new channels from the Indus River and warned that the project could intensify inter-province tensions and already aggravate serious water shortages in Sindh.
At its sixth meeting of the 27th Executive Committee held in the SCBAP register branch in Lahore, the committee adopted a number of decisions relating to important national concerns, including water distribution, regional security and political turmoil.
