– It returns to Apple TV+
– The main herd is returning
– A new role crew is added
– The theme of the show is “to move on”
Shrinking Season 3 is officially on the way, and fans of the heart -warming (and often fun) Apple TV+ series have plenty to look forward to.
Created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, follows the comedy drama therapist Jimmy Laird (played by Segel) as he begins to break the rules with his patients while mourning the loss of his wife. His unconventional approach shakes their lives and his in unexpected ways.
The show has been praised for its emotional depth, excellent performances and its ability to balance sharp humor with deep storytelling. It’s easy one of the best Apple TV+ exhibitions, and Season 2 was even more recognized than the first one, so it’s no surprise that there’s already serious hum about what’s next.
While Apple’s renewal of Shrinking Season 3 in itself was not a shock-Bill Lawrence has always said that the show was originally beaten as a three-season arch speed of the green light shows Apple’s confidence in where it is on the way.
So what can we expect from season 3 of Shrinking? Below we have gathered everything we know so far, from recurring role crew to potential history lines for Jimmy, Alice and the rest of the crew.
Shrinking Season 3: When is it released?
There are no official details yet of when Shrinking Season 3 is released. But the good news is that the third season was green, just as Season 2 was launched – and everything seems to be moving quickly since. It suggests that we still have suffered from a wait, but probably not as long as some other shows.
In even better news, production is already underway. Apple TV+ recently shared an update on Twitter/X confirming that Shrinking Season 3 has officially started filming.
The post includes a behind the scenes Video with co -creator Bill Lawrence welcomes the main herd, including Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Michael Urie and Ted McGinley.

Although there is still no confirmed release window, we can make a few trained guesses. It took two years for season 2 to arrive after season 1, but that the gorge was largely due to the Hollywood strikes in 2023. This time the turn is expected to be much faster as Season 3 was renewed early and filming is already underway.
In comparison, Season 2 was filmed between January and June 2024 and released in the fall of that year. If Season 3 follows a similar production plan – and so far it seems to be – feels an autumn 2025 release as a realistic estimate.
Even before Apple’s video update, Christa Miller (who plays LIZ) had already confirmed that filming was about to begin. In a heartfelt Instagram video, she talked about the shot that took place in Los Angeles – a meaningful decision for the crew and crew of recent fires in the area.
“It’s a really special moment for our role and crew. Because not only do we shoot in Pasadena, we are also filming in Altadena,” she says.
“And after the devastating fires that strike Los Angeles, it feels more important than ever to support all the communities that have been affected, and this is the city where the magic happens and stories is told and dreams come true, which is why our show stays here.”
Shrinking Season 3: Has a trailer been released?

Look at
There is no trailer to Shrinking Season 3 just yet – it’s still early days of filming only just getting started. But it just means we have something to look forward to.
If we are aiming for a release from the end of 2025 (and yes, it is still just speculation), a first teaser or trailer may fall sometime in the summer. As soon as it is released, we update this page and include it here.
Meanwhile you can always visit Shrinking Season 2 trailer to look at where we left off.
Shrinking Season 3: Confirmed Role Crew
We know that Jason Segel returns, he is the protagonist, co-creator and one of the authors. But what about the rest of the role crew? For the most part, yes. Most of the core crew is expected to return, and as always we can look forward to some prominent guest stars along the way.
In a speech with Variety in 2023 about the role crew and the three seasons he had planned, Bill Lawrence said: “Part of the fun for me to do shows, like Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, is that you can tell actors that you have always wanted to work with, ‘If you give me three seasons, it’s fine if you want to split.’ So all I can tell you is that all the gang we roped for this one was down to do it.
We know that a lot of the most important role crews from the first two seasons return, this includes:
- Harrison Ford as Paul
- Lukita Maxwell as Alex
- Ted McGinley like Derek
- Christa Miller as Liz
- Jason Segel as Jimmy
- Luke Tennie as Sean
- Michael Urie like Brian
- Jessica williams like gaby
We also got some early casting news. According to Deadline, Jeff Daniels joins the series as Jimmy’s father. He has been mentioned a few times across the first two seasons, but otherwise Daniels’ character is still a mystery – no official details have been revealed about his role yet.
What we know is that Harrison Ford’s Dr. Paul Rhoades has been a father figure for Jimmy and a grandfather figure for Alice, so it will be interesting to see how the dynamic shifts with Jimmy’s real father now in the picture.
It also looks like Brett Goldstein could return as Louis. Lawrence spoke to the deadline and, when asked if Louis would return to Season 3, said, “Yes, I have to take advantage of that guy. I think the ending was satisfactory. I hope it was for people. But I think I’ve been public to say the first year is about grief, the second year was about forgiveness and third years about moving on.”
He continued, “I don’t think you can do this show about moving on without knowing how the guy’s life is moving forward, at least for an episode or two. So now I just have to exploit Brett to do what I want him to do. He’s a very busy man. It’s very frustrating.”
In another interview with the TV line, Lawrence said, “I’m going to a strong arm Brett to show his face, hopefully, at least a few times more.” So even though we don’t know for sure, it really sounds like Lawrence wants Goldstein back, at least for an episode or two.
Shrinking Season 3: Story Synopsis and Rumors
Potential spoilers follow for Shrinking under.
Apple TV+ and Shrinking Team hasn’t shared any official plot information yet, but the creators have dropped some interesting tips in interviews.
In a conversation with 2023 with variation, co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed that the show was beaten with a clear three-season arch:
“The second year is about forgiveness and the third year is about moving on […] We beat three seasons – the beginning, middle and end, ”
That kind of clarity is always reassuring. When a show knows exactly where it is on the way, it often means more satisfying stories and stronger emotional payouts. That said, don’t expect a nicely wrapped finish.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Lawrence explained:
“You can imagine by just the overall title of forgiveness that what we really want to look at is, about – and by the way, it’s not always cut and dry. I think we all have people in our lives that we can never get over the hump with. And then ShrinkingIt will not necessarily be the most haunted Dory, soft edges type ending. “
He added: “Each time someone undergoes a true catastrophic stick in the spokes of their lives, as the characters in the show did, what you really talk about the first two years is what it means to survive and then kind of bury the hatchet and mend fence. But it doesn’t necessarily mean you will be able to move on in your life and begin again.
And when he looks forward to what’s next, he says, “And when you say to move on, even from the top of my head, so it’s not a spoiler, I think people are aware that we have intentionally made a young woman who is a senior in high school. We have potentially got some people in serious relationships we are already writing it.”
So even if it is unlikely Shrinking Will tie everything in a nice bow, we can expect the figures to face some major intersections – especially when it comes to aging, independence, parents and starting.
Even without teasers we can come up with a few trained guesses about season 3 of Shrinking Based on how season 2 wrapped.
Jimmy ended up forgiving Louis and eventually saving his life. This bow also helped Jimmy treat his grief and forgive himself. His relationship with Alice also began to heal. After months of excitement and emotional distance, she forgiven him for how he had acted in the wake of his mother’s death.
As for the other figures, Paul (Harrison Ford) had his own moment of truth, admitting that he needs support as his Parkinson’s disease worsens. In an interview with the Hollywood reporter, Lawrence said Paul’s story “will be a huge part of next year”.
There is also a tip for a new story from Christa Miller (Liz) who sent a behind the scenes photo of themselves holding a baby on Instagram.
This would quit how Season 2 ended. Brian and Charlie were preparing to adopt, and they asked Liz to help. She agreed and possibly undertook a nanny.
With so many emotional threads in play, Season 3 is shaped up to be an opportunity to dig deeper into growth, change and how people are moving forward.
Will there be more seasons with shrinkage?
Now this season 3 is officially going on and Bill Lawrence has revealed that he knows where it is on the way the big question is, could Shrinking Continue beyond that into future seasons? Right now it doesn’t look likely.
Lawrence has been ready from the start Shrinking was always imagined as a three -season history. He has even suggested how things will pack. That said, in TV country, we have learned to never say never.
Just because Season 4 is not part of the original bow doesn’t mean the show couldn’t return in some form – especially if the audience continues to emerge and Apple sees potential. Still fans probably shouldn’t hold your breath in more Shrinking After season 3rd and if it happened? It would probably take longer to hit screens as the first three seasons were depicted from the start, and everything in addition would require a whole new chapter.
For the time being, it seems that this story has an end in sight, but foreign things have happened.
