Illinois has become the latest blue state to make sure that transking athletes can play girls sports. Republicans in the state are trying aggressively to change it.
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced that it will not comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order to keep trans athletes out of girls and women’s sports.
In a public letter to state GOP legislators, IHSA said Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and the Illinois Department of Human Rights have declared that the State Act requires transking athletes to be allowed to participate on the basis of gender identity.

Illinois uses a similar Playbook to the one used by Maine in his ongoing feud with Trump administration during the issue, citing the state’s human rights legislation as a barrier to banning biological men from Girls Sports.
“As a result of the previous one, compliance with the executive order could place IHSA out of compliance with Illinois Human Rights Act and Vice Versa,” IHSA board president Dan Tully wrote in the letter.
Tully added that IHSA is in “an unsustainable position” as the organization seeks clarity in conflicting directions from state authorities and Trump administration.
“There is a growing narrative that seeks to politicize IHSA’s response. But as it clearly explains in the copy of the letter below, IHSA seeks clarity of contradictory state and federal law so that we can remain in conformity,” the IHSA statement states.
Illinois GOP legislators sent their own letter to IHSA in March and asked what the body will do to change the policy after Trump’s executive order was adopted. Transgender athletes have been allowed to compete in girls sports in Illinois since 2011.
Teenager girls open up on trans athlete scandal that made their high school a cultural war battlefield
In response to IHSA’s recent announcement, several prominent government GOP legislators have spoken as opposed to the rule.
Rep. Blaine Wilhour, who led the initiative to send the first letter to IHSA on the topic, Pakinomist Digital said he is calling on Illinois school districts and school boards to pass on local decisions prohibiting trans athletes from girls sports.
“I think every school district should make it clear that we protect the holiness of girls sports and we believe in local control over these decisions,” Wilhour said. “I want to demand that all your local districts take this stand and do it. Because when push comes to cloud, we win on these questions, but we just need people to be bold and step out there and do the right thing.”
Wilhour condemned head of government JB Pritzker and the democratic majority in the state’s legislature for the state’s laws, enabling Trans -Including in Girl Sports. Wilhour added that he urges Trump administration to intervene and potentially reduce funding in response.
“The whole policy is sick. Either you believe in fair competition or not. The Democratic Party today, and specifically JB Pritzker does not believe in fair competition. They put their waking ideology to protect girls in sports,” Wilhour said.
Maine Girl involved in Trans Athlete Battle reveals how state policies harm her childhood and sports career
“[The Trump administration is] Having to engage here and the leverage they have received is federal funding. We take millions in federal funding from the government every year. And we don’t really enjoy the situation where it would be detained. … but I take my chances of doing the right thing. … Prohibiting boys from participating in girls sports is the right thing to do, so we have to do the hard things to make it happen. ”
Wilhour also called for IHSA to override the direction of the State Government and ban trans athletes from girls sports anyway.
Maine has already seen the type of intervention that Wilhour calls for, both internally and federal.
Maine School District 70 moved to ban trans athletes from girls sports and comply with Trump and defy the state law earlier this week.
Maine has also already seen her federal funding cut by the US Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Justice has launched a lawsuit against the state for its continued tross against Trump’s order.
A federal title IX study is already underway in Illinois after a Deerfield mother claimed her daughter was forced to change in front of a trans student.
Deerfield Public Schools District 109 is facing a probe of the United States Department of Education Office of Civil Rights after Illinois -Mother Nicole Georgas brought light to the situation.
She filed a complaint to civil rights to US Department of Justice After claiming school administrators tried to force her 13-year-old daughter to change in front of a trans-gender student in the girls’ dressing room last month.
She revealed the complaint during a board meeting for Deerfield Public School District 109 Last week he claimed the incident happened last month after her daughter refused to switch to her uniform during physical training because a biologically male student had been present.
Deerfield Public Schools District 109 responded to the investigation in a statement to Pakinomist Digital and, like IHSA Illinois Human Rights Act, quoted its protocols.
“Deerfield Public Schools District 109 complies with state law. Illinois Human Rights ACT forbids all public school districts to distinguish on the basis of sex, including gender identity, and mandates that students must have access to the closet room and the bathroom that are in line with their gender identity,” the statement states.
The district also called on families to express their concerns about certain policies.
“The district and the board are united with our leaders and teachers on this issue and have a common obligation to maintain the law,” the declaration added.
“The District and the Board of Directors encourage all those who express concerns or perspectives on this question with our staff and teachers to do so in a respectful and civil manner. We are happy to work with families to tackle all individual concerns and determine appropriate next step to support your child’s well -being and participation.”
