Erratic weather brings landslides, dusty winds

Lahore/Shangla:

Unlimited weather patterns continued to seize parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday, with dusty wind blowing over the plains, while sustained rainfall overnight triggered landslides in the northern hilly regions, blocking key points on Karakoram Highway (KKH).

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Punjab is currently experiencing a number of weather conditions with slight rain in some areas, dusty winds in others and cloud cover without rain in several parts.

Temperatures all over the province are expected to increase gradually. Rain is expected for Gujranwala and Rawal Pindi divisions, while South Punjab and Lahore Divisions are likely to face dusty winds with low chances of rainfall.

Met Office said that showers can bring short relief from the growing heat in some places, adding that the current weather system was expected to leave the country for today’s end.

In Lahore, the minimum temperature was registered at 24 ° C, where the maximum is expected to reach 40 ° C.

In contrast, the mountainous regions of Shangla and parts of Kohistan were hit by heavy rain overnight, which led to landslides at several points along KKH, especially in Upper Kohistan near DASU, which disturbed both cargo and commuter movement.

Authorities have inserted heavy machinery to clear the waste, and although limited stretches of the road have opened for small vehicles and one -way traffic, there is still full restoration pending due to the continued bad weather, police officers confirmed.

The Chila for the Gilgit section on the highway remains operational. The region also faced intense hailstorms and heavy rain, causing significant damage to orchards and standing crops.
