Police have arrested Sindh Taraqi Pasand (STP) Party’s District President, Syed Jalal Shah, in one case related to an attack on convoy by Prime Minister of Religious Affairs Kheel Das Kohistani.
The case was brought after protesters Pelted Stones on the minister’s vehicle in Thatta one day earlier.
FIRD also appointed several other STP activists, including Haider Shoro, Hakeem Brohi and Javed Janori, in connection with the incident.
The convoy encountered a demonstration held by nationalist groups protesting against disputed channels. As the minister’s convoy approached, the protesters were excited and threw eggs and tomatoes on the vehicle and sang slogans.
However, the convoji managed to pass without further escalation.
The protest was part of a wider campaign of nationalist groups that opposed water drainage and infrastructure development, which they claim to threaten local agriculture and displace society.
Human Rights activists and local political groups have expressed concern about the reported use of force during Shah’s arrest and calls for an independent investigation into both the attack and the subsequent police actions.
“Attacks on public officials are unacceptable,” Tarar said, calling on the Sindh government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and bring those responsible for justice.
Meanwhile, SINDH chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also noticed the attack and issued a strong condemnation.
In a statement he said, “No one has the right to take the law in their own hands.” He instructed Hyderabad to immediately arrest those involved and submit a full report on the incident.
