Peshawar: The Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, has been cleared for all corruption and abuse of accusations in an internal party study, according to a report obtained by Pakinomist News.

The investigative report from Qazi Anwar, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf’s (PTI) Internal Responsibility Committee, found no evidence of supporting the accusations charged against the speaker.

The seven-page report, now submitted to PTI General Salman Salman Akram Raja, says the claims from PTI leader Azam Swati, ranging from financial irregularities to illegal appointments, could not be substantiated.

The inquiry found that Speech SWATI was not involved in the RS30 million payment for renovating the speaker’s house. His participation in a conference held in Australia was considered necessary and in accordance with his official responsibility.

While Class IV staff were recruited without advertising, the appointments were made in accordance with the rules and on the recommendation of the Employment Exchange Office.

All agreements and campaigns, including the special secretary, proved to be legal and based on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). The report also noted that Babar, who speaks, is responsible for the assembly, not to the internal responsibility committee.

The report also mentions that Babar himself had written to PTI’s party committee and requested an investigation to clear his name after accusations appeared in public.

The Committee had asked Azam to submit evidence, and the report now reveals that no verifiable evidence was given to support the requirements.

Anwar revealed that there were differences in meaning within the responsibility body. While one member of the committee had fully rejected the allegations as false, another believes that some of Azam Swati’s claims have profits.

As a result, the case had been forwarded to a third member of the committee.

“No matter what decision the third member is making, it will be acceptable,” Anwar said, adding that the final report would be presented to the PTI founder, Imran Khan.

The controversy comes in the middle of reports earlier this month about a potential confidence in Babar. Sources indicated that the party would have considered removing him if he was found guilty of corruption.

Azam had also quoted instructions from Imran, disseminated during a meeting of Adiala Prison, that the speaker should resign if found guilty.
