Islamabad:
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have called on the nation to follow the doctrine and thoughts of Allama Muhammad Iqbal to make Pakistan a country that provides social and financial justice to all its citizens.
In a statement on the occasion of the year of death for Allama Iqbal on April 21, the president said, “Today we observe the death of the poet in the East and think of Pakistan Allama Muhammad Iqbal.”
“Today we pay tribute to his political and intellectual contributions,” he added.
He said, “The thoughts, philosophy and poetry from Allama Iqbal are a lighthouse for us, and we have to follow Iqbal’s message in our individual capacity and national life.”
Allama Iqbal was not only a poet, but also a thinker and reformer who felt the torments of the Islamic Ummah’s downfall and used his thoughts and verses as a medium to arouse Ummah, he continued.
The president said that Iqbal’s poetry was about the concepts of independence, reformation, divine love, freedom of thought and Renaissance of Ummah.
According to Iqbal, the salvation of the Muslim Ummah was not only in political freedom, but was also achievable through intellectual and spiritual awakening, he added.
He said the poet philosopher called the Muslims against knowledge, wisdom, confidence and the message of real religion.
The president noted that Alama Iqbal’s role was not only limited to his thoughts and poetry, but also played a critical role in putting the political direction of the Muslims in the subcontinent.
He pointed out that Allama Iqbal was an active leader of All India Muslim League, and in his address in Allahabad in 1930 he presented the concept of a separate state for the Muslims in the subcontinent.
“His political thinking reflects the separate identity of Muslims,” he noted.
“Today we face several social, economic and intellectual challenges, so we should adopt Iqbal’s teachings as a lighthouse.”
“Let’s pledge that we will follow the doctrine and thoughts of Allama Iqbal and will make Pakistan a country where all citizens have equal opportunities for social and economic justice and progress,” he added.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Nation called to embrace the principles of Allama Iqbal in individual and collective life to build Pakistan as a strong, sovereign and developed country.
“Today, on his day of death, we pay tribute to Pakistan’s ideological builder, great thinker and poet in East DR Alama Muhammad Iqbal,” Premier said in a statement.
Iqbal was not only a poet, but was a long -sighted leader who presented the concept of a separate country to the Muslims in the subcontinent, he added.
Shehbaz said Iqbal’s philosophy of self -hood and his poetry not only provided an ideological basis for the movement of Pakistan, but also breathed a new spirit in the Muslims of Indo-Pakistan Subcontinent.
The Prime Minister said Allama Iqbal was the first thinker to present a clear concept of a separate state for the Muslims in the subcontinent in 1930 in his address from 1930 in Allahabad.
