MLB NEWS: PODRES ‘LUIS ARRAEZ STRETGENED OFF FIELD VS ASTROS

San Diego Padre’s first Baseman Luis Arraez was carried from the field in Daikin Park in Houston on Sunday night after colliding with Astros’s second Baseman Mauricio Dubon while ran out of a bunt.

Arraez jumped it down the line after pulling his bunt against the bag, and Dubon noted that the first Baseman Christian Walker and Pitcher Framber Valdez would not come to the base in time to make it out.

Walker flipped the ball to Dubon, who just beat Arraez to the bag, but he did not deliver Arraez any way to run through the bag. In a blink, Arraez and Dubon collided, and the Pades star caught the worst of it.

The scene was a scary when Arraez lay still on the grass near the first base. Medical staff rushed to help the designated hitter. After an 11-minute delay, he was placed on a stretcher with his neck and head secured and driven from the track to Houston Methodist Hospital.

Padres released a statement that later said that Arraez was in steady state.

“He is currently stable, deliberate, responsive and able to move his extremities,” the statement reads.

Arraez also gave the thumb to the crowd in Daikin Park to show that he was conscious and aware, which led to a positive reception from everyone.

“It was very scary,” Padre’s manager Mike Shild told Espns Buster Olney under the “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcast. “We don’t see those kind of collisions in our sport a whole lot. Luis is a really, really toughy, and to see him down like that, you know something is pretty serious. Took a prety good blow, sounds like he’s stack now, has feeling Place, which is Clearly Good.

Arraez’s Padre’s teammates on the field were visibly shaken, with Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, who prayed together.

“This is a very close group, man, this is a group that really, really really loves each other,” added Shild. “People say it a lot, but there is a lot of true love. Luis is a big part of our team, a big part of the heart of the club. I just told him that I loved him and we want to be okay and we pray for him, just think of him.”

Arraez with high contact is a clear asset in Padres’ warm start to the season and owns a .287 average to begin the year. Arraez went 1-for-18 to start the year, but he has hit .338 over the last 17 games.

Arraez has been a battle master in each of the last three seasons and noted 200 hits in 2023 and 2024.
