Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Monday that Karachi remains in the grip of a heat wave, with high temperatures expected to continue over the next 24 hours.

According to the MET Office, maximum temperatures in the city are expected to vary between 39 ° C and 41 ° C, while the minimal registered temperature was at 25 ° C.

Relative humidity has reached about 46%, accompanied by dry northwest winds blowing at a speed of 4 kilometers per hour.

The department has advised that the heat wave is likely to continue in the city until April 23 and urges the public to remain hydrated.

Meanwhile, several other districts in rural Sindh also continue to meet intense heat, with Jacobabad detecting 43 degrees Celsius over the last 24 hours, and Shaheed Benazirabad hits 42 degrees Celsius.

Other parts of northern Pakistan, including Swat and Mingora, experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms late Sunday night, which brought temporary relief and cooler temperatures.

Met Office has also predicted strong wind and isolated thunderstorms for upper khyber pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan today.

Earlier on Sunday, PMD spokesman Anjum Nazir Zaighum explained that the western system disturbed the normal air flow and drove the heat wave.

He noted that the sea breeze could return after sunset, but if it remained inactive during the daytime, conditions could be further deteriorated.

The department had advised the residents to take precautions and encourage people to remain indoors during tip heating, limit travel, remain hydrated and protect vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and women.
