Pakistan Airports Authority (on) has reportedly approved the construction of two new international airports in SUKKUR and Muzaffarabad, with work on both projects that are expected to be completed within five years.
On has set up a committee to oversee the acquisition of land for the new places, sources say. Preliminary work has already begun under the supervision of PA’s works and development department.
Sources said RS 2 billion projects are aiming to expand the regional connection and strengthen the country’s aviation infrastructure. Technical consultants and external experts will be committed to supporting the design and construction phases.
SUKKUR International Airport is expected to serve the top Sindh region, while Muzaffarabad International Airport will improve air access to Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Both airports are seen as important infrastructure investments of the federal government.
The message follows a recent order from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to conduct an opportunity survey for a further international airport in Mirpur. The investigation was asked for a letter from the British MPs addressed to the Prime Minister.
