- A practical video shows how an iPhone 17 Air Dummy device is compared to other iPhone 17 models
- IPhone 17 Air is significantly slimmer than the rest of the iPhone 17 series
- It’s so slim that there are concerns that it could easily bend
The iPhone 17 Air gets slim-It almost says itself-but a new practical video with a dummy device may give our best sense of how slim.
Unbox Therapy (via 9to5Mac) has shared a video comparing what is said to be an iPhone 17 Air Dummy device with iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and it’s fair to say they are wowed by just how slim the air is.
They say that with its 5.65 mm thickness it feels “futuristic” and causes the iPhone 17 Pro Max (which is joked to be 163.04 x 77.59 x 8.75 mm) to feel “outdated” in comparison.
This iPhone 17 Air Dummy device is also much thinner than the 149.62 x 71.46 x 7.96 mm iPhone 17 Dummy device they have.
In general, they seem seriously impressed and suggest that it is so slim that most people are not interested in any compromises – which is reportedly only a rear camera – when they first feel it in their hands.
Look at
Bending and battery concerns
However, the phone, which is quite as slim, leaves those with concerns, with the Unbox therapy noticing that bending could be a concern. They are joking that you shouldn’t put it in your back pocket and say “I just don’t know how they will do it strong enough.”
Given that Apple already underwent ‘Bendgate’ with iPhone 6, we would think it would be a priority for the company to make the iPhone 17 air pressure. So hopefully it doesn’t bend easily, but it will be interesting to see if and how Apple achieves it.
Unbox therapy also noted that “If this doesn’t bend in half just by looking at it, then the battery life becomes the next problem”, adding that “this thing will have a terrible battery life” because of how slim it is.
We are a little less concerned about it as the iPhone 17-AIR is raised to use a high density battery, so it may not need so much space for a decent capacity. There are still probably limits to what Apple can control there. But if most people are like wowed by the thinness of the phone as the UNBOX therapy seems to be, they may be able to cope with almost any problem due to its design.
