- Fujifilm teases new camera with tagline ‘half the size, twice the story’
- Tip to new half-hit digital camera, possible called the x-half
- Silhouette seems to show a secondary film example
Fujifilm’s rumored half-frame camera seems to be one step closer to reality. Weeks after leaking pictures gave us our first look at the ‘X-half’, an official teaser now has anything but confirmed its existence.
Shared on Fujifilm’s YouTube channel on April 22, the 19-second clip teases the new camera with tagline ‘Half the size, twice as big as the story’. It is strongly leaning into speculation that the model will play on the semi -frame format.
The clip does not confirm a launch date or name on the new model. It simply says ‘see you soon’ and suggest that we don’t have long to wait to find out more.
The video also gives us a silhouette of the camera that looks consistent with images circulating online earlier in April. The shady preview shows a camera that monkeys the retro design language channeled by other Fujifilm models, including a structured control disc and circular viewfinder.
Another detail of the teaser has given rise to further speculation: a blue provia logo on the left side of the camera under the viewfinder. This sits where the container window would traditionally be placed on a film camera. So what does that mean for the x-half?
A window for simulation

The semi -frame format comes from analog photography. It traditionally refers to a camera that can capture two vertical exposures on a single frame of 35 mm film, so you can twice the number of still images from a roll. It is also a natural fit for today’s content creators that produce portrait images that are easily shared on social media.
New movie cameras such as Pentax 17 and Kodak Ektar H35 have helped the half -frame format return to popularity in recent years. The question is how Fujifilm’s new camera will bind to this resuscitation.
As we reported earlier this month, online sources suggest that the X-half will be a modern recording of the semi-frame format that combines digital’s convenience with the charm of analogue. It is a recipe known for Fujifilm, as seen in models like the virally popular X100VI.
Leaked specifications suggest that the x-half will continue this trend, with a vintage design with a manual exposure button and an optical viewfinder. Fuji Rumors has also reported that the new camera has a vertical LCD screen on the back to help compose shots.
Fuji rumors have further speculated that the x-half will have a 1-inch sensor. It is not clear whether this will be oriented vertically or horizontally, but many believe it will allow users to create ‘Diptych’ images that combine two side by side photos in a frame. The teaser clip adds weight to this, with the line ‘Twice the story’.
Where will movie come into that story? As above, the trailer shows a Blue Provia banner on the back in the bottom left of the camera. Provia is a type 35 mm film made of Fujifilm. It is also one of the many film simulation recipes available on recent Fujifilm cameras that digitally mimic the appearance of classic film.
Some analog cameras contained a canned window showing the roller mounted inside. As several commentators have suggested online, this could be imitated by a secondary LCD screen on the x-half. It’s something we’ve seen before: X-Pro 3 contained a mini-screen on the back panel that could show the chosen film simulation.
A film example for film would certainly fit the X-Halfet’s rumor blend of analog and digital, putting a modern VRI on a design brand of 35 mm cameras. It can also be a divisive. As with X-Pro 3, nostalgic blooms can be seen as gimmicks of purists. Then the x-half is not necessarily targeted at a purist audience.
We only want how Fujifilm’s semi -frame camera is posted when full specifications and prices are confirmed. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long to find out.
