New -Connections Today (Play #683) – The answers
The answers to today’s connections, game #683, are …
- Yellow: Things that are white Baby powder, milk, polar bear, snow
- Green: kind of salad Butter, icebergs, leaf, romaine
- Blue: “Batman” villains Trajectory, joker, penguin, Scarecrow
- PURPLE: They have literal/ idiomatic ears Cornfield, musicians, pitchers, walls
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
After a short dalliance trying to create a group with a cold climate like the common thread, I went for icebergs rather than the iceberg, which has fallen by a glacier.
I was familiar with butter and Romaine, but I gambled that leaf was a row. There are so many salad types to choose from. And let’s realize it, none of them are particularly interesting.
There are also lots of things that are white to choose from – lots of walls are white, including those who have ears. Sorry I reformulate it – even walls that have “idiomatic ears”.
I initially paired scarecrow with Cornfield before seeing the other more famous “Batman” villains.
This is another group with a huge role crew to choose from. Bruce Wayne certainly has more enemies than any other fictional character – the Wikipedia page “List of Batman Family enemies” contains well over 200.
How did you do today? Tell me that in the comments below.
Yesterday’s new -connections Reply (Wednesday April 23, Game #682)

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
