Alijah Arenas, a five-star basketball prospectus and son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, was reportedly involved in a serious vehicle accident, according to several reports on Thursday.
Arenas was “hospitalized and placed in an induced coma,” ESPN reported. The 18-year-old natives in California traveled in a Tesla Cybertruck shortly before 7 p.m. 05.00 in Los Angeles, according to TMZ Sports.
Arenas recently committed to the USC Trojan Lord’s Basketball team.

In December 2024, Arenas was one of the top-ranked slides in the 2026 class. He recently asked to be reclassified as a senior to allow him to study from high school in 2025.

Gilbert spent 12 seasons in the NBA and played for four different franchises. He hosts the basketball-centered “Gil’s Arena” podcast.
Gilbert participated in a special father-son moment earlier this month at McDonald’s All-American Game in New York. In an interview, the younger arenas talked about some of the similarities he shares with his father.

“Our personalities are a bit similar,” Alijah said. “I feel like it’s also my dad’s dream that I could get to that level.”
During a recent edition of the Philadelphia 76ers Guard Paul George’s “Podcast P”, the older arenaer shared some details of the experience of coaching her son.

“Ain’t no time off. … We’ll get [300 or] 400 shots up before school, “said Arenas.” He is coach bar … Depending on what day it is. In the morning we travel as 5:30 so he [practices] one and a half hours. [He goes to school, comes home and then] Works and we got lifted right after. And then we got more shooting, more dribbles. “
Gilbert has five children, four of whom share with his ex-wife, Laura Govan, Alijah’s mother.
