A 50-year-old online motorcycle delivery rider was shot dead by the robbers in Karachi early Saturday during a robbery attempt as the city’s rising tide of street crime continues to bring the number of people killed in similar events since the beginning of the year to 34.

The latest killing took place near Bagh Korangi Bridge in Shah Faisal Colony, in jurisdiction for Sharafi Goth Police Station.

The victim was identified as Nadeem Ahmed, a father of three and mosque vice hosts who also worked part-time as a delivery rider to support his family.

Nadeem traveled from North Karachi to Korangi when he was attacked. After being shot, he was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center in critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body was handed over to relatives by legal formalities.

In a speech with the media, Nadeem’s relatives expressed deep anger and frustration and said that lawlessness in Karachi pushed ordinary citizens into fear and uncertainty.

His nephew, Arsalan, said he was trying to call his uncle around 2 p.m. 04:00, only for a police officer to answer and inform him of the shooting.

“Someone answered and asked who I was for him. When I said he was my uncle, they told me he had been shot and was no longer alive,” Arsalan said.

The victim’s brother -in -law, Majid Ali, said there was a complete collapse of law and order in the city. “He was the father of three and returned home late because of the responsibility. We had asked him not to travel so late, but he insisted because of family obligations.”

Majid described Nadeem as a humble and devoted man, known for his honesty. He was a resident of Korangi and served as a muezzin in a local mosque using his free hours to work as a rider for an online delivery service.

According to police and media reports, Shah Faisal Bridge has become a fireplace for robberies without any visible crashes from the authorities. Residents complain that incidents are rising, especially in the late hours.

Official figures show that 34 citizens from January to April 2025 have been killed by the robbers in Karachi. The division includes five killings in January, February 10, nine in March and another 10 in April so far.

Citizens and community leaders have demanded urgent and effective action from the government and law enforcement authorities to curb the rise in street crime.
