New York Giants took the Penn State’s Abdul Carter third along with the dream that one day he could be in their honorary ring and solidify a place as one of the best players to wear their jersey.

But the Jersey does not want number 56 on what he would like.

Number 56 perhaps belonged to the biggest defensive weapon that the NFL has ever seen: Lawrence Taylor. It was retired by Giants in 1994 to honor the Hall of Fame Linebacker, and he intends to keep it that way, despite Carter mentioning his desire to carry it.

However, Carter uses Lawrence’s “Get another number” comment as fuel for his own fire on his way into his rookie campaign with Big Blue.

“The worst thing he could say was no !! My attitude doesn’t change, it’s [goat emoji]. Nothing but respect … This will just make me work even harder !! I love it, ”he wrote at X.

Carter’s comment comes from Taylor, who is asked about the Penn State product’s own right after being a draft of New York.

He spoke with colleague Nittany Lion Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys’ Star Edge Rusher, who will now be an enemy. Parsons and Carter both had No. 11 in Penn State, so the former asked the latter if he would carry this tradition into the NFL.

The problem with this number is that former Giants Quarterback Phil Simms saw that he also withdrew for him, but Carter said he looked at Taylor’s No. 56 to which Parsons and his Bleacher Report Co host responded in amazement.

The New York Post asked Taylor about Carter’s potential number request and it was clear that he would not share it.

“I know he would love to carry this number,” Taylor said. “But hey, I think it’s retired. Get another number. I don’t care if it’s double zero, and then make it famous.”

Giants’ previous draft of the first round, wide receiver Malik Nabers, received the blessing of Ray Flaherty’s family this last season to carry his retired number one. So a request is not unusual for the franchise.

But Taylor wants Carter to throw his own way in the NFL and get Giants fans remember him for his own number on his back.

Of course, Carter would definitely love to have a career that is distant close to Taylor’s.

He was a 10-time pro bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion, League MVP in 1986 and three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year during his 13 seasons in the league-all with Giants.

Taylor gathered 142 career sacks over 184 games after taking number two in the NFL draft of 1981 out of North Carolina.
