Attorneys at Sindh announced on Tuesday that they are finishing all ongoing sit-ins throughout the province, except for the Baberlo Bypass protest in Khairpur, after the Council for Common Interest (CCI) rejected the controversial new Canals project from the Indus River.

After the CCI decision, the festivities broke out on the Baberlo Bypass sit-in, where protests had gone into their 12th day. Protesters called CCI’s rejection of the channel project a major victory for Sindh’s unity and resistance.

All Sindh Advokater Action Committee confirmed that the court’s strikes would officially end from April 30, and that sit-ins in places like Karachi, Kandhkot, Ghotki and other districts had ended.

However, Baberlo-Sit-in will continue for now as more additional requirements remain unresolved.

Attorney General Sarfraz Metlo stated that the Action Committee would hold conversations with Sindh government officials in SUKKUR to press for further demands, including the abolition of corporate farming, withdrawal of cases against protesting lawyers and the return of seized vehicles.

A decision on Baberlo-Sit-in will be made after these negotiations.

Karachi Bar Association President Aamir Nawaz Warraich said that although the Baberlo protest persists, it no longer disrupts traffic flow.

He repeated the requirement that the company’s agricultural projects should also be canceled after the government’s withdrawal of the new Canals project.

The Council for Common Interest (CCI) on Monday rejected the federal government’s proposal to construct new channels from the Indus River and overthrow a previous decision from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), made in February.

“No new channels will be constructed without mutual understanding and consensus among all provinces,” said a release from the Prime Minister’s office after the meeting, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The high-level meeting that was convened early at the request of the SINDH government was attended by the most important ministers in all four provinces, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister Ameer Muqam and other officials.
