The NFL draft in 2025 brought its reasonable proportion of surprises, but the Shedsur Sanders saga became a warm debated topic.

Cleveland Browns chose Sanders in the fifth round. Shortly after the selection, Sanders went to social media to share a short but emotional message: “Thank you God.” In the days since, many figures in the sports world and over there have shared thoughts on why Sanders fell down the draft boards.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter is one of the latest former NFL stars weighing into the Sanders situation.

In what seemed to be his unfiltered roof, Carter Sanders suggested tens of thousands of millions of dollars because of his disposition and total handling that led to last week’s draft.

“(Shedu and his family) thought he was in the same evaluation state as Eli Manning, they didn’t play it right,” Carter said during a recent sitdown on the “fully loaded” podcast.

“Those who tried to narrow the teams that he would go to? It didn’t go right. Not working on the combine? It wasn’t the right thing. His interview process. It was clear that he could have done much better than that. Many people left meetings and felt he was very, very justified.”

The NFL legend also pushed back on the notion that the league collided to prevent Sanders from becoming a high draft election. Carter claimed that the former Colorado -Quarterback and his family “overplayed their hand.”

“A number of things happened. No. 1 -Ting that didn’t happen was that there was no compilation message with NFL owners,” Carter said. “They wouldn’t be able to keep such a secret. They wouldn’t be able to hold a chain about it. Every owner is very, very selfish. Now why should I do something to my injury? Like, if I need a quarterback, and I think this child is? Those who have been given them, but shot and shot and his family and his family and his family overplayed their hand.

Carter admitted that Sanders had intangible things worthy of a first round of picking, but not until he was aiming for Quarterback’s physical features.

“He doesn’t have a big-time arm. He’s not a big guy. He’s not all for athletic. His measurable is not, say, first round measurable. But he played football as a first round … but you don’t play football all the time. You’re a human-present rest of the time,” Carter said.

Sanders ended the 2024 season with 4,134 passing yards. He is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders. He joins a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland containing Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
