Quetta/Karachi:
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) Chief Organizer Mahrang Baloch ended a hunger strike a day after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) admitted to overturning her detention, her lawyer told AFP on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, BYC leader Sami Din Baloch while talking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club also confirmed that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and others have interrupted their five-day hunger strike at the request of the lawyers and families from other retained BYC activists.
Mahrang Baloch, 32, was arrested last month on allegations of terrorism, sedition and murder. She and four other prisoners had stopped eating Thursday in protest of alleged mismatch from police and abuse in detention.
On Monday, BHC admitted to hearing her petition to overthrow her detention, her lawyer Imran Baloch said. “The petition was admitted by High Court and messages were issued to the government,” the lawyer said, adding that a consultation was planned for Wednesday (today).
Sami Your Baloch told Reporter that Dr. Mahrang, inhabiting Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Sibghatullah Shahji and Bebigar Baloch had been in the hunger strike in prison for the last five days, adding that their health was deteriorating quickly and that their condition had become very critical.
“We had serious concerns about the health of our prison leaders. That’s why a group of families and senior lawyers yesterday (Monday) met a group of political prisoners and senior lawyers in prison and persuaded them to end the hunger strike. And they ended the hunger strike,” she added. (With additional input from AFP)
