EXCLUSIVE: The family of Texas Teen Karmelo Anthony has been at the center of the national media in recent weeks after the 17-year-old allegedly stabbed another boy at a trace meeting in Frisco on April 2.

Since the incident, Anthony’s family has raised more than $ 515,000 on the crowddsourcing platform Giverendgo. Karmelo Anthony Help Fund has become one of the most discussed fundraising campaigns in recent weeks and collected half a million dollars for a suspect who has reportedly said “I did it” at the stabbing, but also claims it was in self-defense.

The campaign has not yet reached its $ 600,000 target, which was pushed up on Tuesday from a previous $ 525,000 target, so the funds have not been paid to the family.

Giverendgo co-founder Jacob Wells told Pakinomist Digital that his company has a team communicating with the Anthony family about how they plan to spend the money once received.

“They have been very clear that the large part of this money will be spent on Carmelo’s legal defense,” Wells said, and later added, “they stated that some of it will be used to give them some security, some much needed security.”

Wells also said, “and then also a safe place for them to live … they rented before and they continue to rent. So it’s like, okay, $ 3,000 a month for the next year, a year and a half.”

Wells refused to reveal something more specific than that.

Co -founder ‘not proud’ to host fundraiser for alleged trace -mouse therapy say some donors are ‘wrong’

Pakinomist Digital has reached the family’s lawyer and spokesman, Next Generation Action Network (Ngan) President Dominique Alexander, for comment.

Fundraiser’s side description has been changed since it first went live.

The Fundraiser’s Purpose Currently Reads, “While Legal Defense Is A Critical Part of This Journey, We Want to Make It Clear That This Fund Is Not Solely Dedicated To Legal Expenses. The Funds Raized Will Also Support A Range of Urgent and Necessary Needs Thed Situation, Including-But Not Limited to-The Safe Relocation of the Anthony Family Due to Escalating Threats to Their Safety and Well-Being, As Well As Basic Living Costs, Transportation, Counseling, and other security measures.

Since the previously did not reveal the purpose of the funds.

“We sent an E email to everyone who donated … because there was some confusion at the beginning of whether this one was specifically a legal defense fund or whether it was open to other things,” Wells said.

“They updated their campaign to say ‘Hello, here are some of the things we want to spend money on.’ And we sent an E email to anyone who had donated and said ‘Make sure it is you read and if you have questions now, about their updated statements as far as using funds, then feel free to ask for a refund … and zero people answered and said’ I want my money back. ‘

Killed Texas Teen Austin Metcalf’s Home Vejked Timer After Tense Press Conference Showdown

Wells added that if the funds of a campaign were used to buy something that was not properly represented on the fundraiser side, it would be a violation of the company’s policy and reason for removal.

Wells says he has taken another fundraiser down to his site to fraudulent to raise money for travel expenses, while the organizer intended to spend the money to buy a gun. However, he specified that this is not the case with Anthony Fund.

Anthony was recently moved from his home to a “non -public place to secure his immediate security” after a “alarming increase in death threats, continued harassment and physical threats targeted at the family’s homes,” Ngan said in a statement last week.

According to the release, the threats included people who loated and took photos of the Anthony family’s current residence, unwanted food supplies, as Ngan said, were “done to disturb and harass the family” and a mailing of Metcalf’s obituary to the home, which was also described as “disturbing.”

“We share images and documentation of the threats that the family has faced over the past weekend to make the public aware of the dangerous atmosphere created – an atmosphere driven by organized hatred, systemic racism and intentionally wrong information,” the group said.

Anthony was released from Collin County Prison after his bond was reduced from $ 1 million to $ 250,000 last Monday. He is charged with first -time murder.

Meanwhile, the Metcalf family has been victims of swatting in recent weeks, Frisco Police Department previously confirmed. SWATTING is when a 911 call is made, usually to report a false violent crime, to get police and sometimes even SWAT teams to respond to the address given by the one who rings.

Anthony allegedly confessed to having stabbed Metcalf when he was arrested by a school resource manager at Kuykendall Stadium in the minutes after the attack.

When one officer told someone else that he had the alleged stabbing suspect in custody, Anthony apparently said, “I didn’t alleged. I did,” according to the arrest report from the incident.

Anthony also asked the officers if Metcalf “would be okay” and asked if what happened could be considered “self -defense.”
