Dustin May’s life was almost cut off last year.
While recovering from another Tommy John operation during the summer, Los Angeles Dodgers ate a salad. A leaf of salad was stuck in the throat and tore his esophagus and required emergency surgery.
May did not want to go to the hospital but wives know everything.

“If I wouldn’t have gone into operation that night, I wouldn’t have woken up, probably. It was definitely life or death. The whole thing is thanks to my wife,” he told Pakinomist Digital in a recent conversation. “I tried to convince her that I didn’t need to go and she said it wasn’t an option.”
May was called up in 2019 and his arm has always been one of the most creepy in the great leagues. Since 2021, however, he has only made 25 starts due to two Tommy John operations and his salad accident.
When he is on the field, he has been great. His era during this time is 3.24. He also made all five starts this year and threw himself to about a 4.00 ERA.

“I’m fine. It’s just a blessing to be able to go on the uniform and be back on the field now. Whether the results are good or bad, I will be in a good mood that goes home just because the game was taken away from me for so long and being able to jump right back in it and not skip a beat has been big,” May said.
Arm -damage happens, especially for jugs. But the rest of your season and almost your life that is shortened due to eating a salad? It was a hard pill to swallow for May, which admitted that he couldn’t help but think, “Can something go my way?”
“It’s definitely crossed my mind,” he said.
With the help of his wife, he has also used the power of prayer.

“There has been a lot of prayer and a lot to talk to my wife and a lot of sitting-down conversations just to try to wrap our heads around this and try to put our best foot rather than not
May has always leaned on his faith, “but my spiritual journey has certainly grown over as the last nine-ish months ago my surgery.”
“It certainly came much closer because I was almost taken away, so I would definitely have the opportunity to thank him for being able to still be here and still live my dream and use the abilities and gifts he blessed me with.”
“So thanks [my wife] And the good gentleman above. “
Now that he is back, May is trying to be as stress -free on the shock as possible. That was not the case when he returned from his first Tommy John operation because he was a top view.
“I feel like earlier in my career, definitely after my first [Tommy John surgery] When I came back, I definitely felt there was pressure on me to be the person I was before, “he said.” But I mean, after all this it went down, after my other [Tommy John] And after my esophageal surgery, there are much bigger image objects in my life now, not just being my world so wrapped and focused on baseball. It is definitely still a centerpiece, absolute. But if things go south, or if things are going well, I still try to keep one level head.

“I’m just happy and blessed to be able to put the uniform on again and be out there with my guys because it was something I had missed and felt I hadn’t been part of it for so long.
“I felt like a fan because I was so far away from it. Now I feel like the desire to contribute. It’s a way cooler feeling.”
