- A major visual renewal to Android has been seen
- The update is hidden in the latest Android 16 Beta
- It could be announced by Google later this month
Android 16 needs to be pushed out to the world as a whole within the next few months, and we now have some solid evidence of a larger design overhaul for Google’s mobile operating system that updates many different areas of the user interface.
This new look was spotted and activated by Android Authority, hidden in the code for the latest Android 16 beta. At this point, it is not clear whether the UI update will be launched at the same time as Android 16, but it seems to be almost ready to go.
First up we got an updated look to the status bar at the top of the screen: There are new status bar icons here (for example Wi-Fi, battery level and flight mode), as well as a fine-tuned look for the font used for status bar.
The other notable change that is on the way is to the messages and quick settings panel. It seems that there will be different adjustments to this panel, including a blurred background, a redesigned brightness shooter and segmented icons.
Lock screen and volume

Thirdly, there are also visual changes to the lock screen with a more compact review, the introduction of dynamic colors and some widget rearranging that we have previously written about.
A fourth change comes to UI used for volume. The shooting beams become thinner with different handles at the end and various other adjustments – not huge differences, but they give a cleaner, more modern look in general.
Fifth, the app becomes the settings more “expressive” with colored icons, smaller headings for menus and arrows to indicate sub -pages. The idea is that settings are easier to find and manipulate on your Android phone.
There are also several minor changes, including shifts in icon form and more blur over the interface. Google hasn’t said anything official about the update yet, but may well do to Google I/O 2025 event, which starts on May 20th.
