Kuwaitian authorities are cracking down on illegal crypto mining, with over 60 people now under investigation, as part of a sweeping campaign to eradicate unlicensed operations.
The country’s public prosecution confirmed that the investigations are ongoing and warned that more suspects could be identified in the coming weeks. “The Security Operation”, carried out last Friday, targeted residential properties across the country suspected of hosting mining, according to local media.
The operation was coordinated by the top officials, including acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-YouSF and Minister of Electricity Dr. Subaih al-Mukhaizeem. The government said it is aiming to limit unauthorized power consumption that has strained the national network and led to blackouts in some areas.
The Ministry of Electricity has begun to disconnect the current from mining-bound properties. Re -connection will only be allowed with approval by the Ministry of the Interior. Officials also perform follow -up sweeps in different neighborhoods.
Kuwait has enforced an “absolute ban on all virtually active/cryptocurrency mining” under a directive from its selection of money laundering money supported by regulators, including the National Bank of Kuwait.
