Disney Head opens up on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Restart

Buffy the Vampire Slayer returning after more than two decades. At Hulu, the series has restarted with fan favorite Sarah Michelle Gellar, who represents her role.

While Disney TV Studios chief, Eric Schrier, shared details of the project in an interview with Deadline.

“It came out of Karey Burke and [Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment Scripted President] Simran Sethi had always wanted to try to find out a way to restart this show, ”he shared.

Head continued, “Our partners at Fox Searchlight Television, which I also work with, have an agreement with Chloé Zhao. It ends up with Chloé Zhao loving Buffy so we put them together. And out of it came the idea.”

According to Eric, Sarah, who played the demon hunter, “has also been part of it from Get-go; she is a performing producer.”

He also said the restart is doing, especially keeping fans in mind. “So it’s just a fantastic package that happened organically because we were excited to retell that story after so much time in a new way.”

“I think all of these restarts come from the idea of, ‘What is the new way we can tell these stories?’ Not ‘Okay, they are IP and let’s restart them,’ Eric added.

Meanwhile Buffy the Vampire Slayer Restart has not yet had a release date.
