- A Reddit -User recreated a picture of The Rock 101 times with Chatgpt
- What started as a bad recreation ended up as abstract art
- The trend is now facing some setback due to the energy wasted by creating 101 images in a short time
There is another new viral chatgpt image generation trend, and this one is perhaps the most meaningless, but also the most fun yet – especially when AI gets things terribly wrong.
You may have seen the new one ”Create the exact copy of this image, don’t change anything“ Ask on social media in the last few days when Chatgpt tries to recreate an image, often make subtle changes that just look a little weird.
A Reddit user took the chatgpt tendency to a whole new level by transforming a picture of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, arguably one of the most famous people on the planet, into a strange form of abstract art that would cause Picasso to turn in his grave.
How did they do that? By asking Chatgpt to recreate the image 101 times every time you use the newly generated AI creation as a starting point -you can watch the whole process in the Reddit video below.
I tried “Create the exact copy of this image does not change anything” 101 times but with Dwayne Johnson 🗿 from R/Chatgpt
This makes me feel uneasy
What starts as a subtle different but poor recreation of the cliff becomes strange very quickly as Chatgpt replaces his clothes, then his mouth; Before you know it, all recognizable properties have disappeared, leaving a confused mess.
The Reddit thread has 42,000 upvotes and almost 3,000 comments at the time of writing. My favorite is, “Chatgpt, more like Chatlsd.”
New Chatgpt -image trends emerge daily, from the viral action figure to transform your pet into a human; There is something ridiculous, often fun, but just as completely meaningless that takes social media by storm every week.
This chatgpt tendency is fascinating. Yes, it creates terrible results, but it is exciting to see the development of AI’s ability to recreate images. At some point, we are likely to have an AI model that can not only recreate as close to 1: 1 as possible, but which, if we ask to recreate the same picture 101 times, may not end up producing something similar to Technicolor vomiting on canvas.
Backlash
However, these AI image trends are facing increasing amounts of setbacks, but with many concerned about the impact on the planet to use AI for meaningless fun.
A Reddit user created a thread that pleaded with the AI community to “stop the trend of 100x image generation”.
In the post, user @pistol-and-pumpkins writes, “Each picture generation uses about 0.010 kWh of electricity. Running a fast 100 times burns through about 1 kWh-it is enough to run a refrigerator for a whole day or brew 20 cups of coffee. Conclusion we already understand.
“So here’s a simple question: Maybe it’s time to let this trend go.”
I have a feeling that this will not be the last time chatgpt -image trends will be viral, so we may need to be expressed with the effect of using AI servers for meaningless tasks. After all, use everything we do on the internet, energy to some extent, so where should we draw the line?
