- Amazon’s Alexa+ AI just hit 100,000 users in the US
- Still, the company’s CEO is warned Agentic Technology still “primitive”
- Alexa+ rolls out in waves but still missing some key features
Like many other Big Tech companies, Amazon jumped on the artificial intelligence (AI) band by launching his own AI assistant named Alexa+ in February. Now the company has announced that the tool has been rolled out to 100,000 users.
Right now, Alexa+ is focusing on giving a conversation experience with an AI -Chatbot, though Amazon aims to put it with “agent” abilities in the future. It would enable it to act as an agent on your behalf and interact with third -party apps to perform the tasks you ask for it.
The little tidbit came from Amazon CEO Andy Jassy during the company’s recent earnings call. There, Jassy explained that “our intention is for agents to perform far-reaching complex, multi-step tasks,” and that “there have been no action-oriented agents like this until Alexa+.”
Still, the latest update to Alexa+ is missing some of the most important features Amazon demonstrated in February, pointed out by the Washington Post. It would not be the first AI to arrive without promised capabilities AI-driven Siri has been exposed to several delays and disturbance and it shows how difficult it can be to pull ahead in the ongoing AI weapon race.
Even Jassy admitted that Alexa+ faced challenges. In general, agent AI tools are still “primitive”, Amazon CEO, with Amazon’s own NOVA Act AI model, aimed at improving their accuracy from only 30% to 60%. In the end, the goal is to reach over 90% accuracy, but clearly Alexa+ is not there yet.
Limited availability
Amazon has previously stated that it is aiming to launch Alexa+ in waves, so we should expect to see accessibility rise in the United States in the coming months. There is no news yet about an international rollout.
Of the users who have tried it so far have shared their thoughts or provided insight into how well it works. However, that changed recently when user Pretty2be went to Reddit to answer questions at AI -Chatboten.
During the session, Pretty2be declared that Alexa+ is good at interpreting the natural speech and is able to avoid interrupting you. Other positive feedback included its speech synthesis capabilities, even if the user criticized his tendency to push you against Amazon Music even when you try to use Spotify.
We do not know when Alexa+ will roll out to more users, but it is clear that there is still work to be done, judging by both Pretty2be’s feedback and Amazon CEO Jassy’s comments. Hopefully the missing features arrive before the next 100,000 users sign up.
