Fred Vanvleet had 29 points, eight assists and eight rebounds, Alperen Sengun contributed 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Houston Rockets kept their season alive by beating Golden State Warrior’s 115-107 Friday night and forced a decisive game 7 in their first round playoffs.
Golden State went cold as it means the most: Warriors missed 13 straight shots between Daymond Green’s basket with 10:12 back and a 3-point of Stephen Curry at the 3: 35 mark.
Now everyone comes back on a plane and goes to Houston for Game 7 on Sunday to get a chance to meet well -rested Minnesota in the SemiFinal’s Western Conference. That’s exactly what Warriors hoped to avoid with a chance to squeeze at home in the Chase Center.
Curry scored 29 points, but shot 9 out of 23 and went 6 for 16 from deep. Jimmy Butler added 27 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Vanvleet converted a four-point game to start the fourth quarter after Warriors were drawn within two with Curry’s flurry to finish the third. Jalen Green scored next time down on a setback of his own miss. Then Vanvleet’s 3 set up from the top with 6:47 remaining Houston 101-89.
Curry’s driving layup with 39 seconds left in the third made it a four-point game that fired up the home crowd in bright yellow playoff shirts with matching rally towels. Then he made two free throw when Warriors pulled within 86-84.
But Warriors couldn’t keep it going. With a balanced effort at both ends – including 17 points and Hustle Plays by Big Man Steven Adams from the bench – Houston had a response almost every time the Golden State threatened or made a big game.
Warriors led 3-1 in the series, but fell afterwards at a speed of a 131-116 game 5-loss on Wednesday night as Houston’s violation rolled after an average of 98 points through the first four games in the series.
Vanvleet was brilliant again. He shot 7 for 13 from the floor after consecutive matches that went 8 for 13, and he converted all nine of his free throw to put him at 21 in 27 during the last three games on the line.
Daymond Green passed Isiah Thomas (987) to 15th place on the NBA Playoff Assists list and now has 992.
Daymond Green picked up an offensive error at the 8:53 -mark in the first quarter to push Jalen Green. The play went for review and the bad one was destined to be a flagant-1. But after two straight matches with Dustups, both teams remained ready.
Warriors fell to 27-11 since Butler’s debut on February 8 after his trade from Miami.
