Over the past week, the Shedeur Sanders’ Free Fall Down NFL Draft Boards became one of the most talked about topics in the sports world.
While once projected as a first round of election, it took until the fifth round for the former Colorado-Quarterback’s name to get off the board. Shortly after Cleveland Browns chose Sanders on the last day of the annual draft, he went to social media to share a short but emotional message: “Thank you God.”
In the days since, many in the sports world have tried to analyze Sanders’ fall. During a visit to Churchill Downs ahead of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, Pro Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon became one of the latest to weigh into the Sanders saga.

Moon, a nine-time pro bowler during his great career, offered Sanders Council as he prepares to begin his NFL career with Browns.
“You can’t behave like a cornerback when playing quarterback. Quarterback is a humble position. You have to be respectful,” Moon said Friday during a performance at “Up & Adams.”

Moon also reminded Sanders of the great responsibility that he would should be a NFL quarterback.
“You have to be a leader. You are the face of the franchise. There is so much more responsibility that comes with it, (and) that’s what he needs to understand,” Moon added.
When he was asked to describe his experience before the draft of Shedeur, an anonymous NFL assistant coach noted that it was “the worst formal interview” he had been interested in.

“He has so the title. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has terrible body language. He accuses teammates … but the biggest thing is that he’s not so good,” said the named assistant coach via NFL media.

Despite the controlled Sanders’ preliminary process, Moon expressed optimism about the possibility of the young signal call now that he has a pure slate.

“You (Sanders) understand the things that you may have done wrong or done right throughout the pre-draft process, but now you’re drafted,” Moon said. “You are in an organization. You have a chance to go in there and give a name to yourself. That’s how you start doing it. That’s how you attack it. Nobody’s there’s a clot in that job at quarterback right now.”
Sanders ended the 2024 season in Colorado with 4,134 passing yards. He joins a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland and joins to Deshaun WatsonJoe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
