Islamabad:
The Capital Supreme Court has expressed anger and frustration over the Islamabad police’s failure to recover four brothers who had disappeared from Islamabad by the beginning of 2024.
Justice Muhammad Asif, chairman of a single member Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench, resumed by hearing a petition filed by the family of the missing siblings on Monday.
During the hearing, the judge noted that a new case of enforced the disappearance of court. “We put our confidence in the police, but they have not delivered,” he said.
The Director General of the Islamabad police claimed that in many cases people are leaving home voluntarily, only to later reappear and testify to a magistrate that they had been away on personal trips.
The counselor for the petitioner questioned how the Punjab police managed to end the brothers within the Islamabad jurisdiction and added that one year and four months had gone without any progress in their improvement.
He also pointed out that three Punjab police staff were nominated as accused in the case but had not been arrested. “Both Islamabad and Punjab police have failed to regain the brothers,” he said.
Islamabad -Police’s Deputy Inspector (You) told the bench that police officers were sent out messages but that they did not participate in the investigations. “Now we will request their arrest warrants.”
The judge noted that the police should have sought the accused’s drawing options earlier. “All this can happen to you and I. What are we going to do then?” He asked.
Punjab Police Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) assured the court that the provincial police would be arrested by the accused official executed and submit a report to the court.
During the hearing, the mother of the missing brothers fainted with grief and received a sympathetic reaction from police officers and female lawyers
While hearing the case in October 2024, IHC had when Chief Justice Aamer Farooq threw the authorities for their failure to recover the brothers and also sought reports from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defense.
IHC had also directed the senior superintendents of the police (SSP) in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to perform in person at the next consultation along with status reports warning that otherwise it would issue their arrest warrants.
The four brothers had disappeared in January 2024 from the Barakahu area of the federal capital.
According to the other, the brothers were picked up by the Rawal Pindi police from Khanna, which falls under Islamabad’s jurisdiction, in January. However, the police authorities from both Islamabad and Punjab later refused to have withheld them.
